Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust have received the prestigious Europa Nostra Award for the restoration of the Camellia House, which transformed the historic Lady Rockingham’s Tea Room into a vibrant visitor and community space.

The awards, launched by the European Commission in 2002, recognise outstanding contributions to cultural heritage. The Trust were one of only 24 projects across Europe to receive the coveted award.

John Healey, the Member of Parliament for Rawmarsh and Conisbrough, visited Wentworth Woodhouse last month to congratulate the Trust on winning the distinguished award.

John Healey said, “It was a real pleasure to join Sarah McLeod OBE, Chief Executive of the Trust, to celebrate the Trust’s incredible achievement in receiving the Europa Nostra Award for the stunning restoration of the Camellia House.

“The Trust have put a great deal of effort and dedication into revitalising Wentworth Woodhouse, and it is fantastic to see them getting well-deserved praise. The restoration of the Camellia House marks a significant moment in the Trust’s growing international reputation and cements the stately home at the centre of South Yorkshires heritage.

“We’re so lucky to have this incredible place right on our doorstep. It’s a brilliant spot to visit and has given a real boost to our local economy

“My thanks go to everyone who made this restoration possible, including the late Dame Julie Kenny, whose vision and commitment were key to bringing this project to life.”
