The government has launched the Orgreave Inquiry to uncover the truth of what happened on 18th June 1984.

For over 40 years, miners and families, including in Rotherham and Doncaster, have lived with unanswered questions about what happened.

Many were injured and 95 people were arrested. They all deserve justice.

The launch of the Inquiry fulfils a key promise made to my Rawmarsh and Conisbrough constituents and will hopefully be the fulfilment of the long struggle for justice of former mineworkers and the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign.

Rawmarsh and Conisbrough MP, John Healey said:

“This is a historic moment for former miners and their families locally who have campaigned tirelessly for an inquiry into what happened at Orgreave 41 years ago.

“Events from that day caused decades of damage to our community and I’m pleased that this Government is delivering on its promise to uncover the truth and deliver justice for all those involved.

“The announcement today is long overdue and I’m proud that our government is taking action after years of failure and inaction.”

Labour will always be on the side of ex-mineworkers. We have delivered justice by ending the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme and Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme scandals, delivering pension uplifts to almost 3000 ex-mineworkers across Rawmarsh and Conisbrough.
