Rotherham Council has extended their Baby Packs initiative following a successful pilot scheme.

The scheme was originally funded until 2027, but after an overwhelmingly positive response, with 99% of parents recommending the Baby Pack, the Council has agreed to continue it for a further four years.

The Baby Packs, pictured above with Cllr Victoria Cusworth, Cabinet Member Cabinet Member for Children and Young Peoples Services, are designed to give families essential items for their newborns and reflect the Council’s commitment to giving every child in Rotherham the best start in life. Each pack includes clothing, a toy, a book, and other helpful essentials for the first six months, all packed in a sturdy storage box that can later be used as a memory box.

John Healey, MP for Rawmarsh and Conisbrough, said:

“Extending the Baby Packs initiative is fantastic news for parents and their newborns. These early essentials make a real difference in those first months of a child’s life, and they sit alongside a wider commitment to giving every child the best start in life.

“This Labour Government are delivering 30 hours of free childcare from nine months to four years old, free breakfast clubs, lower school uniform costs, and expanded access to free school meals. We are committed to giving families the support they deserve.”
