Rawmarsh and Conisbrough MP, John Healey, raised a glass of Chantry’s latest beer to celebrate Beer Day Britian.

The Parkgate based brewery has brewed Bailey Bridge Pale Ale to commemorate a local legend – Rotherham born Civil Engineer Donald Bailey.

Donald invented the portable, prefabricated bridge in 1940–1941 for military use during the Second World War.

The bridges are still in use today and have the advantage of not needing any special tools or heavy equipment to assemble them. They’re also strong enough to carry vehicles and provide crossings for pedestrians.

John Healey MP said:

“It’s great to see the Bailey Bridge being recognised by Chantry Brewery who often look to local people, places and inventions when naming their new beers.

“The Bailey Bridge is well known throughout the world and has served the military well over the last 85 years.

“It was good to catch up with Mick, Sean and Kevin at the brewery and celebrate the history of the great British pint for Beer Day Britain.”

Beer Day Britain is an annual celebration on 15th June for all beer lovers and celebrates all beers including traditional ales, mainstream lagers, limited edition craft beers and everything in between.

Chantry Brewery Head Brewer, Mick Warburton, said:

“We were really pleased to welcome John to Chantry Brewery Tap and celebrate Rotherham’s history with our new beer, Bailey Bridge Pale Ale.

“We’re proud of our local heritage and this beer commemorates a unique feat of civil engineering designed by one of our own, Donald Bailey.

“A lot of time and effort goes into blending and perfecting all of our beers and this one was no exception!”

You can celebrate Britain’s national alcoholic drink and spread beery love throughout the land by joining the National Cheers to Beer at 7pm on June 15th.
