Residents from Denaby, Old Denaby and Conisbrough were invited to attend a consultation event for the Conisbrough North Pride in Place Programme on Friday, alongside Rawmarsh and Conisbrough MP John Healey and Doncaster Council.

The evening was an opportunity for residents to learn more about Pride in Place and to share their thoughts on how the money should be spent. A wide range of ideas were put forward, covering community facilities, green spaces, local heritage, crime and anti-social behaviour, sport and leisure, shopping areas, roads and footpaths, and much more. The data and suggestions will be analysed, helping to build a picture of what it is residents want to see improved across Conisbrough North.

The fund is community led, meaning it is up to local people to decide how the money should be spent. A neighbourhood board, led by a chair, will be set up and will comprise of residents, businesses and community groups. The board will be responsible for making the decisions that will deliver the improvements that matter most to Conisbrough North residents. This will be in place by the end of July.

The Pride in Place Programme is a significant, long-term investment by the Government, committing up to £5.8 billion over 10 years to transform communities across the UK.

John Healey, said:

“In September, it was announced that £20 million of long-term funding will be spent over the next decade to deliver for a community that for too long has been forgotten.

“This was brilliant news for Conisbrough North and highlights Labour’s commitment to rewriting years of under investment, particularly in former coalfield communities like Conisbrough and Denaby.

“It was brilliant to see so many residents come along and show such enthusiasm and engagement. There was a real sense of energy and excitement in the room about what this programme could achieve and the positive difference it will make to the area.

“Thank you to all those who took time out of their evening to get involved, and to Michelle Beeney and Kim Wilson from Doncaster Council for their support.”
