I’ve had many constituents contacting me who are still going to work but are very worried that their employers – big and small – are continuing to operate as normal but not doing enough to protect their workers.

I’ve had reports that employers are not implementing guidance on social distancing, lack of hand sanitisers, poor support for staff to work at home and much more.

Employers who fail to implement the Government’s guidance are undermining the national effort to beat the Coronavirus crisis and putting at risk the health of individual workers and their families.

I’m tackling some of these firms directly but we need Government action to deal with two big gaps and make sure all employers are held to account: first, there are no helplines for staff to challenge their employers; and second, no agency is acting to enforce essential health guidance on employers.

So I’ve now taken the step of writing directly to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson to lay out these concerns and press for Government action to ensure all employers are protecting their workforce. You can read my letter here.
