John Healey MP and Jake Richards held a joint Veterans Voice event in Bramley.
The Shadow Defence Secretary and Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Rother Valley listened to the concerns of military veterans and veterans’ groups from across the borough.
Veterans’ Voice is Labour’s nationwide listening campaign to link up with veterans and their families and shape the party’s plans for the next general election.
Wentworth and Dearne MP, John Healey, said: “It was great to be able to bring veterans and organisations together from across Rotherham to have an open discussion about the sort of changes they need to see.
“Veterans and organisations that support them are the best advisors you can have when it comes to making the changes that are needed for the future.
“The next Labour Government will stand side-by-side with veterans and their families. We are committed to fulfilling the important promises our society makes to those who serve.”
Labour would strengthen support for veterans, with a boost to specialist support and a plan to bring down waiting times for veteran’s mental health services as part of a £1bn commitment to ensure everyone receives treatment within a month.
Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Rother Valley, Jake Richards, said: “We had a really good discussion about public policy and what’s needed to ensure we look after veterans in Rotherham going forward.
“We want to make sure that when Labour are in Government we’re going to deliver for veterans in the borough and across the country.”
