John’s backing for new RMBC cabinet
Today, the fresh leader of Rotherham Council Paul Lakin confirmed his new cabinet, cutting out two posts to switch the money saved to support victims of Rotherham’s child sexual exploitation. The cabinet takes overall responsibility for how council services in Rotherham are run.
The new cabinet members are:
Cllr Paul Lakin, Leader of the Council
• Cllr Emma Hoddinott, Deputy Leader of the Council
• Cllr John Doyle – Adult Social Care and Health
• Cllr Dominic Beck – Business Growth and Regeneration
• Cllr Mahroof Hussain – Environment
• Cllr Christine Beaumont – Children and Education Services
• Cllr Maggie Godfrey – Safe and Attractive Neighbourhoods
Commenting on the announcement, John Healey MP said:
“Earlier this week the new leader of Rotherham council Paul Lakin rightly said that Rotherham council needs to change. I strongly supported his first decision to cut two cabinet posts and put a stop on council foreign trips to fund extra support for abuse victims.
“Today I welcome this new-look and slimmed-down cabinet. These are important posts and he’s put in the people he thinks are capable of doing the job. It’s the first time the top team around the council leader has been 50-50 women and men. They all have a tough job to do, not just to protect and improve local services when central government is making such deep cuts to funding for our area, but also to rebuild trust in the vital work that the council must now do after the Jay report has exposed such grave past failings in support for children at risk. They will have my full backing in doing so.”
