John Healey has praised the work of Big Local Thurnscoe as its housing project has helped to rejuvenate two former derelict houses in the village.

The refurbishment was a joint venture between the group, Barnsley Community Build and Barnsley Council.

The Wentworth and Dearne MP paid a visit to Grange Crescent to see the good work for himself.

John said: “The great thing about Big Local’s is that they’re all different.

In Thurnscoe they’ve taken over two houses that were derelict, in disrepair and dragging the neighbourhood down.

You’ve now got homes for local people, instead of an eye saw for those that live nearby it has improved the street and most of all this project has provided on-site training for apprentices and some of them have got jobs from it as well.

It’s exactly what Big Local is all about”

The homes will now be sold on and money from the scheme will go towards the refurbishment of other houses in the area.
