Barnsley’s MPs have hit out at the Government for imposing a new contract on junior doctors.

A 48-hour strike is due to start at 8am on Wednesday 9 March.

MPs John Healey (Wentworth and Dearne), Michael Dugher (Barnsley East), Dan Jarvis (Barnsley Central) and Angela Smith (Penistone and Stocksbridge) said:

“We agree with junior doctors that the Government are wrong to impose a contract on them without their agreement. We want to see an agreed settlement between junior doctors and the Department of Health that settles this dispute.

“Imposing this contract without agreement is provocative, damaging and bad for morale at a time when the NHS is facing a crisis because of the actions of this Government. We will continue to highlight this in Parliament on behalf of everyone in Barnsley who cares about the future of NHS.”
