John welcomes Home Secretary announcement

The Home Secretary Theresa May today announced in the House of Commons that Fiona Woolf JP will chair the Government’s independent overarching inquiry into historic child abuse and child sexual exploitation (CSE).

She also announced that she’s also appointed Prof Alexis Jay – author of last week’s independent report into CSE in Rotherham – as the ‘expert advisor’ to the inquiry.

John said:

“On Tuesday this week I called on the Home Secretary to use the shocking conclusions of the Jay report as the basis of the Government’s national inquiry to make sure the grave past failings in Rotherham are not repeated in other places because this criminal sexual exploitation of children has already been exposed elsewhere.

“Today she’s confirmed this will happen by asking Alexis Jay to act as the inquiry’s expert adviser.

“I strongly welcome the Home Secretary’s response and appointment of Professor Jay.”
