John and councillors organise litter pick in Swinton

TWENTY bags of rubbish were collected during a litter pick, organised by the local MP and councillors.

John Healey and Cllrs Wyatt, Doyle and Atkin carried out the blitz after receiving complaints from residents in Swinton.

They were joined by local volunteers and pupils from Swinton Fitzwilliam School who are eco-monitors.

Mr Healey said: “I want to thank all those who turned out to help. This was the first of many litter picks I’ll be helping to organise, and I’d like to hear from people who think their local area needs a blitz on rubbish.”

The group cleaned up Pottery Ponds, around Warren Vale roundabout, the sides of Blackamoor Road, Woodlands Crescent and the entrance to Creighton Woods.

Next month, there will be a litter pick in Wath.

Rotherham Council provided bags and litter pickers and collected the waste at the end.
