NATIONAL YOUTH PARLIAMENT COMPETITION

YOUTH groups and secondary schools are being encouraged to enter a competition aimed at helping them understand the workings of Government and our democracy.

Wentworth MP John Healey has written to headteachers asking them to consider taking part in the National Youth Parliament Competition and is offering to help students with their submissions.

To enter, young people have to recreate the Parliamentary chamber and make a 20-minute video of their debate on a mock bill.

Mr Healey said: “This competition plays an important role in enabling young people to make sense of politics and to develop the skills and understanding to take part in our democracy.”

The competition is run by the Citizenship Foundation and supported by the Ministry of Justice and is open to 11 to 18-year-olds.

Contact Mr Healey’s office on 01709 512463 for more information or go to www.citizenshipfoundation.org.uk/nypc to apply online.
