MP BACKS GRASSROOTS SPORTS INITIATIVE
NEW funding programmes are available for grassroots sports projects in the area.
Wentworth MP John Healey said around £35m in government and Lottery funding was available this year – and urged eligible groups and organisations in Rotherham to apply.
He said: “These new funding programmes from Sport England will help increase participation in sport at a local level, giving everyone the chance to make the most of their talent or just enjoy being more active.”
· The new Small Grants Programme: £7m available in National Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000. For projects such as buying sports equipment, running coaching activities or getting coaches more qualified. Quick and easy, decisions are made within six weeks.
· Sportsmatch programme: £3m of government cash to match sponsorship from the private sector, trusts, charities and individuals.
· Rural communities funding: £10m of Lottery funding for projects which encourage people in rural areas to play and enjoy more sport.
· Sustainable Facilities Fund: £10 of government and Lottery funding for projects promoting a sustainable approach to community facilities.
· Innovation Fund: £5m of Lottery funding for projects that use new ways of breaking down barriers to participation.
