John Healey called in to support the UK’s third Older People’s Day which was celebrated with Rotherham’s Older People’s Forum.

Hundreds of events took place around the country on Thursday, October 1, to draw attention to the opportunities, achievements and aspirations of older people and their contribution to our society and economy.

Older People’s Day aims to help challenge outdated stereotypes about ageing and foster strong links between different generations.

Rotherham celebrated the day with various activities at Silverwood Miners Welfare, Doncaster Road, Rotherham.

Mr Healey said: “This was a great drop-in day. It showed what a range of advice and support and services are available for elderly people across the borough.

“There were representatives from 27 different organisations, including the Samaritans, Rotherham Pensioners’ Action Group, Age Concern and Rothercare.”
