Rawmarsh & Me…Unlimited launches at Roundwood Pavilion
Rawmarsh & Me…Unlimited launched with a bang on Saturday 10th April, with a fun-packed event at Rawmarsh’s Roundwood Pavilion. The glorious sunny weather attracted over 150 local young people and their parents who came to sample the day’s activities. Attendees had the opportunity to change an F1 wheel against the clock, design and make their own bunting, learn how to make their own delicious pizzas in a concept known as ‘Pizzatainment’ as well as participate in a writing workshop and have their caricatures drawn by local artist and poet Brian Lewis. The fun didn’t stop there though with younger children enjoying a jump on the outdoor bouncy castle, before returning to enjoy some live acoustic entertainment courtesy of local musicians. Parents were able to talk to local partners involved in Rawmarsh & Me….Unlimited and get information on the activities taking place throughout the course of the year long initiative.
All attendees enjoyed a specially designed Rawmarsh & Me…Unlimited goody bag, comprising branded goodies including a sports bag, reusable grocery shopper, t-shirts, wristbands, stickers and an information poster map of the campaign’s activities.
Special guests at the event included Rotherham Mayor Councillor Shaukat Ali, Mayoress Wajida Naseem, Housing Minister John Healey, cabinet member for Children and Young People’s Services Shaun Wright and Rawmarsh Councillor Neil Hamilton.
Mayor Shaukat Ali said, “I was honoured to attend the Rawmarsh & Me…Unlimited project launch with the Mayoress. I thought it was an excellent opportunity for young people and their parents from Rawmarsh to sample some wonderful local activities as well as to learn more about their future career options. Rawmarsh & Me Unlimited is a project which I hope will raise the aspirations of Rawmarsh’s young people as well as demonstrate that nothing is impossible for them to achieve if they put the effort in.“
John Healey commented, “Having attended the launch event on Saturday, it was fantastic to see so many people support and get involved in the wide range of activities and opportunities that Rawmarsh & Me…Unlimited will bring to the local area over the coming year.”
Caroline Langston, High Street Centre Development Manager, said, “The event proved to be a great opportunity for us to show off the activities we are offering at the High Street Centre through the Rawmarsh & Me…..Unlimited programme. We were able to reach and engage a large number of young people and families that we had previously not had any contact with in the area, which is exactly what the project is about – involving the whole community of Rawmarsh.”
