MP TO ATTEND PUBS SUMMIT

Wentworth MP John Healey is to attend a meeting in Parliament in support of community pubs.

The local government minister is among ministers attending the meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group on March 4. Around 80 MPs are also expected to attend.

The meeting will look at the key issues affecting pubs and how locals can be supported.

Mr Healey has a history of supporting pubs – as Treasury minister he introduced the small breweries tax relief which has helped local breweries set up and expand, including Rotherham’s Wentworth brewery.

He said: “Local pubs are an important part of our country’s history and heritage and in communities can be a focus for social, sporting and charitable activity. The pub industry as a whole makes a huge contribution to employment and the economy.”

Mr Healey added: "I will do what I can to see a strong government response to the report."
