John Healey MP showed his backing for pubs as he called in to the George and Dragon in Wentworth today.

The visit was part of Proud of Pubs week, organised by the Publican magazine, which John supports every year.

The event is about showing support for the industry and recognising the contribution pubs make to communities.

John chatted to acting manager Beth Gibson and pulled a pint of his favourite brew – Wentworth Brewery’s WPA.

He said: “I make a point of supporting Proud of Pubs Week every year to highlight the important place pubs have in their local communities. And I want to show my support for landlords and managers like Beth.

“I know business can be tough but pubs are often right at the heart of our villages and towns and I am here to give them the help I can to see them do well in the future.”

Beth said the popular pub attracted locals as well as customers from further afield – including one regular who comes every week from Worksop.

She said: “I think we create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

“We have the open fires in the winter and the big beer garden for the summer, which is really good for families. They even come down with picnic blankets.”

The pub is launching is launching a new menu on Monday August 2. All food is cooked fresh to order.
