MP WELCOMES POST OFFICE BANKING PLANS

LOCAL MP John Healey has welcomed today’s announcement that the government is consulting on plans to expand Post Office banking services.

He said: “I’ve long argued the case for expanding the financial services offered at the Post Office and will continue to work for this behind the scenes in government.

“The Post Office has an unrivalled network of 11,500 branches, is a strong and trusted brand and offers customers face to face contact – and these are real assets, particularly in the current economic and financial climate.

“Today the government has launched a national consultation and I would encourage everyone to have their say on what banking products and services they would like to see their local Post Office provide.

“Over two million customers already use Post Office financial services – but this is a real opportunity to help people who might not be able to access services at mainstream banks.

“The Post Office could play a bigger role in communities and this would help secure the future of the network.”

Leaflets giving information about the plans and offering customers the chance to have their say will be available in Post Office branches over the next 12 weeks.
