ACTION TO UNLOCK YOUNG PEOPLE’S TALENT IN ROTHERHAM

A PARTNERSHIP in Rotherham has received £450,000 to help raise young people’s ambitions, broaden horizons and unlock talents.

It is part of a £10m government programme – Inspiring Communities – set up to raise the aspirations of 11-14 year olds and their parents.

Local MP John Healey said: “All young people deserve the chance to see what they are capable of and the opportunities open to them. This funding will help our young people fulfill their potential.

“I am grateful to the people and organisations who are giving their time and experience to help give young people a chance.”

Among the activities in Rawmarsh will be parent mentoring, a children’s summer university programme through twinning with Valencia in Spain and youth park wardens to develop responsibility and self esteem.

There will also be a community event, planned and runned by local young people and adults, and a community panel to make sure local people have a voice.

All Inspiring Communities initiatives are being led by local communities and in Rawmarsh the project is being delivered by Rawmarsh Community School, Rotherham Council, Rawmarsh High Street Centre and other voluntary and community organisations.
