MP HAILS INCREASED GCSE PASS RATE

THE number of Rotherham GCSE pupils achieving at least five A*-C passes has increased by more than 20% in the last 10 years, which is a faster rate than the national average.

And 13% more are achieving at least five A*-C passes including English and maths.

MP John Healey congratulated Rotherham teachers and pupils on the fantastic achievement.

He said: “Our young people should be applauded for their hard work and teachers, staff and governors recognised for their efforts in putting extra government investment to good effect.”

In June the government announced Rotherham was being fast-tracked for around £100 million of funding through the Building Schools for the Future programme.

Nearly £22 billion is being provided for investment in school buildings and facilities across the country over the next three years.

Mr Healey said: “We are transforming schools so they are fit for the 21st century. Having new, state-of-the-art facilities and bright welcoming spaces can inspire children and help them reach their full potential."
