John announced as new President of Rotherham MS Society
The Rotherham Multiple Sclerosis Society has today announced that local MP and Treasury Minister, John Healey, will be their new branch President. Mr Healey will take over from the Countess of Scarborough who recently resigned after 25 years as their figurehead to spend more time with her family.Mr Healey is a longstanding supporter of their work and has campaigned for disabled people and their carers for many years, working throughout the '80s for the Royal National Institute for the Deaf, the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation, the Carers Association and MIND, before becoming the Wentworth MP.
Commenting on his new role Mr Healey said:“I am honoured that the Rotherham MS Society has asked me to become their new Branch President. The Society touches the lives of so many local people each year and I am looking forward to working with members of the group to support those who suffer from MS and their families."
Harold Smith, Support Officer at the Rotherham MS Society said:
“One of the main reasons we asked Mr Healey to become our new Branch President is because we know how much he cares for people with disabilities and of the work he has done in the past to help improve the rights and services open to them. We are delighted that he has accepted the position.”To contact the Rotherham MS Society please call: (01709) 835300 or to find out more about the work of the MS Society across the country please visit www.mssociety.org.uk
