22nd December 2006 For immediate release Campaign success gets bus route to hospital reinstated
Bus services to Rotherham Hospital from Flanderwell and Sunnyside will be restored in the New Year following a campaign by local residents, MP John Healey and Wickersley Ward Councillors Peter Thirlwall, Sue Ellis, and Beryl Billington. The No.10 bus service used to go direct to Rotherham District General Hospital via Flanderwell and Sunnyside, however the route was diverted at the end of October to shorten the journey time for people travelling between Rotherham and Maltby.
Concerned local residents contacted local Councillors and MP John Healey, who asked First South Yorkshire to consider reinstating the link to the hospital. First's Commercial Director, Brandon Jones, confirmed to John Healey today that the company are intending to divert their No.3 service to restore the link to the hospital from 28th January. At the same time they will be doubling the frequency of the No.4 bus service to Rotherham town centre from once an hour to every 30 minutes.
Mr Healey said: "Many people who contacted me were concerned about the withdrawal of the service to the hospital, and I am pleased that as a result of their efforts local residents will see a direct service to the hospital restored in the New Year. The increased frequency to Rotherham will also be welcome." New timetables for the No.3 and No.4 bus services should be available mid January and residents can register for timetables online by visiting www.travelsouthyorkshire.com
